Pay Attention to your Intention!

At the SXSW conference, Howard Rheingold covered his process of Infotention—the psycho-social-techno skill/tools to find your way online today. “Pay attention to your intention” was his advice, which certainly applies with regard to living life in crescendo.

He went on to say that “knowing what to pay attention to is a cognitive skill that steers and focuses the technical knowledge of how to find information worth your attention.” Knowing where to direct your attention,” he states, also “involves a third element – other people. Increasingly, most of the recommendations that make it possible to find fresh and useful signals amid the overwhelming noise of the Internet are social media – online networks that make possible social exchange and relationship. Tuning and feeding our personal learning networks is where the internal and the technological meet the social.”

I would recommend his book Net Smart: How to Thrive Online.  But in a spiritual sense, you can certainly apply Howard’s precepts for finding your way towards your passion. When you have an idea of what you want to pursue, then pay attention to your intentions, and connect with those individuals of similar interest. Ask each of them about their thoughts about their passion, be it a hobby, career, charity or worthwhile activity. Research your field. Become an expert. And create filters in your day that allow you to spend more and more time toward your chosen field, without sacrificing your current well-being.  Because finding your pathway to passion is living your life in crescendo.
