John Hawthorne 1. From a Sunday night flight from Chicago,
to a place that I can’t comprehend.
An innocent conversation led
to an unforgettable friend
With me in my rumpled trench coat,
and she in her uniform blues.
I still can’t describe what I felt deep inside,
but I know she was feeling it too.
C. God only knows the answers.
I don’t really care what is right.
We were two lonesome souls en route
to separate stories in life.
2. And we still can’t abandon the feelin’,
like kids on a hot summer date.
Though both of our worlds are far apart,
our hearts are as one in fate.
And maybe I’m better a free man.
Or maybe I’m scared to grow old
But my heart’s telling me that my destiny
should be bound in a band of gold
C. God only knows the answers.
I don’t really care what is right.
We were two lonesome souls en route
to separate stories in life.
3. So tonight I will take her in my arms,
under the moonlight above
We can live out the dream forever and ever
just as long as there is love.
C. God only knows the answers.
I don’t really care what is right.
We were two lonesome souls en route
to separate stories in life.
(dialog, John Hawthorne dials Helena — on the phone with Helena)
Helena Allo?
John Bienvenito
Helena John?
John The one and only. Hey, I just wanted to confirm our date.
See you at the Carnivale at Eight tonight?
Helena Wonderful……but how will I recognize you?
John I’ll be the one that looks like a dumb American.
Helena Well, then you should be able to find me easy enough.
John How’s that?
Helena ‘Cause I will be the Hospitality Guide to help you find your way.
John I like that idea. I’ll pick you up at Eight. Then you can guide me around this place. The last time
I did the guiding our date went into a few extra innings.
Helena What are innings?
John Never mind. See you soon. By for now.
(Spot light dims and other lights focus on Daniel Ribeiro, who is eaves dropping on John and Helena’s conversation. He makes some phone calls.
