“TWIST OF FATE”

Luisa is cooking breakfast when Helena walks into the room, rushing as she is late for work.

In Db.

Verse 1

Luisa                           How was your evening, you look like you had a rough night.

Helena                         It’s no fault of John’s, when I’m with him it all feels so right.

Luisa                           Helena, my instincts are telling me you’ve more to say.

Helena                         (It’s just that)  we broke up a drug deal, and bullets were flying our way.

Luisa   says                 “What?”          You can’t be serious, you’re smiling like you’re in a daze.

Helena                         Mama, I’m home safe,  and John was a hero, unfazed.

(Chorus)

Luisa                           What can I do?  Time just won’t wait.

How should I deal with this challenge, this……Twist of Fate.

(Verse 2)

Luisa                           Well tell me what happened?   I thought you were just going to dine?

Helena                         The evening was magic

Luisa                                                                           She’s sending chills right down my spine!

Helena                         We dined to some minstrels, our two hearts were beating as one.

Helena                         We walked in the moonlight, and into some drug runner’s gun!

Luisa   says                 “What?”          Santa Maria! I hope there’s no more to your tale.

Helena                         As a matter of fact, there is one more momentous detail

(at this point, Waterbug sleepily enters the room, yawning. 

Luisa crosses her chest.)

Luisa                           Who is this boy?  I believe that my heart will soon fail!

Helena                         We rescued him last night from gangsters or possibly jail.

Luisa–speaking to Helena

You don’t even know?

Luisa                           What is your name boy?  And why weren’t you home late last night?

Waterbug                    Well m’amm, my nickname is Waterbug, I sleep where ever I might.

Helena                         Now I must know are you somehow a part of that gang?

Waterbug                    I promise you truly I quit them ‘cause they’ll surely hang.

(Chorus)                      (Luisa grabs her throat and is dizzy)

Luisa                           What can I do?  Time just won’t wait.

(he runs into the next room)

Luisa                           Daughter you test me, although I admit that he’s cute.

We really can’t help him for we are almost destitute.

Waterbug enters the room with the bag of money.

Helena                         Mama we can’t let the gangs get him nor the police

Waterbug                    Maybe I’ve got something here that can help with the lease.

(music pauses, WB pours out a bag full of money on the table)
